Chris McLean completed his undergraduate training at St Mary's Hospital Medical School, London. His registrar training was in the North Thames Region which included Moorfields Eye Hospital. He undertook Fellowships in Oculoplastic Surgery and Lacrimal Surgery at Moorfields Eye Hospital, London and was appointed a Consultant Ophthalmologist at the Royal Surrey County Hospital , Guildford in 1999
