Vision on the road is critical to your safety.

No matter what type of driving you do, seeing clearly can
be challenging for almost any driver. Driving is hazardous
enough without also having to worry about your vision.

Ask yourself:
• Is it hard for you to see objects quickly when driving in low light conditions like rain, twilight, or night?
• Are you bothered by glare from oncoming headlights?
• Do your current glasses give you problems when scanning the road, mirrors, and dashboard?

Don’t compromise your safety with spectacles that don’t provide the best possible vision on
the road. ZEISS, the leader in precision optics for over 165 years, has a new solution for you –
ZEISS DriveSafe.

New – ZEISS DriveSafe Lenses.
One pair of glasses for everyday use and safer driving.

Many people feel insecure, uncomfortable and stressed when driving, especially in difficult light and weather conditions such as rain and mist, or at dusk or night. On average 83% of spectacle lens wearers* also drive. Driving can be a real challenge for everybody – no matter how long the distance, and good vision is vital for safety.
With ZEISS DriveSafe Lenses, ZEISS is introducing a new lens product category for everyday use. It is specifically designed to meet the vision needs of people who want to feel safer and more comfortable when driving with their everyday lenses.
ZEISS DriveSafe Lenses are available in both single vision and progressive lens types.

Benefits for the wearer

- One pair of glasses for everyday use and safer driving:
- Better vision in low light conditions for safer and more comfortable driving
- Reduced glare at night from oncoming cars or street lights
- Accurate view of the road, dashboard, rear-view mirror and side mirrors

1// Better vision in low light conditions.
Luminance Design® Technology by ZEISS.

The challenge

For many drivers, the greatest visual problems come in low light situations (mesopic conditions like cloudy/rainy days and twilight). spectacles have never been designed to account for the size of the pupil in these conditions. As a result, space perception and distance calculation can be especially difficult when driving.
ZEISS conducted intensive research into mesopic vision in developing Luminance Design Technology.* Standard lenses are designed using single-ray tracing, which does not account for pupil size. This can result in a lens that does not offer optimal clarity, especially when the pupil size is larger in low light conditions.

ZEISS solution

DriveSafe lenses address this problem with Luminance Design Technology (LDT). LDT incorporates the pupil size for driving in mesopic conditions and optimizes the lens design accordingly. As a result, wearers have better vision all day, especially in low light conditions.

Bright light = photopic vision with small pupil
Large depth of focus, relaxed space perception

No light (darkness) = scotopic vision with large pupil
Small depth of focus, little to no peripheral vision

Low light = mesopic vision with varying pupil size
Challenging conditions due to variation in depth of focus and dimly lit peripheral vision

2// Reduced glare at night.
DuraVision® DriveSafe Coating by ZEISS.

The challenge

Glare is a major risk while driving, reducing visibility and contrast sensitivity. This is especially true in low light or at night, particularly with today’s powerful Xenon and LED headlights. Up to now, anti-reflective coatings have not been designed specifically for this challenge.

ZEISS vision scientists on research to determine the best coating to reduce glare from modern headlights.

ZEISS solution

DuraVision DriveSafe coating reduces glare by reflecting the most harmful wavelengths from Xenon and LED headlights. ZEISS DriveSafe is preferred by patients for headlight glare reduction by more than 2 to 1.

**Compared to premium ZEISS coatings. With DuraVision DriveSafe 64% less test drivers reported issues with glare with the new coating than with other premium AR coatings.

Without DuraVision DriveSafe Coating

With DuraVision DriveSafe Coating: glare reduction preferred by more than 2 to 1.

Dramatically reduced glare and reflection

3// Accurate vision of road, dashboard and mirrors.
ZEISS DriveSafe Lens Design.

The challenge

Driving demands a high level of attention. Drivers need a wide, clear view of the road in order to evaluate traffic conditions, but they also need to shift rapidly from the road to the dashboard and mirrors. This can be especially challenging for progressive lens wearers.

ZEISS conducted an eye-tracking study with automotive research institute FKFS* at Germany’s University of Stuttgart. This study precisely mapped the actual visual behavior of drivers to determine what areas of vision were needed the most.

*FKFS Research Institute of Automotive Engineering and Vehicle Engines Stuttgart is an independent foundation associated with the University of Stuttgart. Founded in 1930, FKFS has became one of the largest and leading research institutes in the field of automotive engineering, serving major automobile manufacturers and suppliers. For more information please refer to the ZEISS DriveSafe White Paper.

ZEISS solution

Using this data, ZEISS designed the DriveSafe Progressive with optimized distance and intermediate viewing zones, reducing the need for horizontal head movement.

Dynamic vision for fast refocusing from the road to the dashboard and mirrors
Near vision suitable for all day wear

Up to 43% larger** mid-distance zone for easier focus switching between dashboard and mirrors. And up to 14% larger** far-distance vision zone for a wider view of the road.

**Compared to ZEISS premium progressive lenses

ZEISS DriveSafe Progressive and Single Vision Lenses offer dynamic and comfortable all day vision both on and off the road.
